Silent Witnesses

History comes alive when I travel and feeds my curiosity to discover more about what I see in the world.  In this series of paintings I am drawn to ancient vessels and their varied uses.  These vessels speak of their intersecting art, culture and history.  Each vessel has had an interaction with its part of the world relevant to the people who used them for a season.  The layers of history and the connections that have been revealed or have been concealed is very compelling.  Only a small part of the story is told.  Vessels have been the silent witnesses of many historical and dramatic moments in our world.  What if we could know the story of each vessel, it's functions or purpose.  Was it made for beauty or did it hold wine, oil, grain, tears or ashes?  If the vessel could speak what would it tell us of it's life and what it saw and heard.

We are vessels.  What story are you telling?
